The Kanso House

Kanso is a Japanese principle of minimalism, focusing on the elimination of clutter in favour of simplicity. It is one of seven principles of zen philosophy. Thus this project embraces minimalism by eliminating clutter in favour of simplicity. The design focuses on clarity, purpose and the beauty of unadorned forms, fostering tranquillity and harmony by highlighting the essential qualities of each space.

The Entrance
The entrance of The Kanso House sets the tone for the calm interiors within. The safety door, designed in a wooden texture rafter with custom metal jali finish in black powder coating with subtle stone inlay detail enhances its tactile richness — a refined nod to handcrafted artistry.
Right besides entrance door, a shoe rack with seating has been thoughtfully designed for comfort and convenience, topped with a soft cushioned seat that invites pause. To complete the setting, a lotus stem planter adds a natural green accent, infusing freshness and elegance into the entryway — a quiet yet striking design statement that perfectly echoes the Japandi philosophy of simplicity meeting nature.

The Living & Dining Space
The heart of The Kanso House reflects warmth, balance, and calm minimalism. The living area opens into a 6-seater dining space, designed for togetherness. Custom-made wooden white dining chairs beautifully paired with a green ombré tones bench with green ottoman below, creating a blend of elegance and comfort with onyx dining top.
Soft sheers and main curtains frame the room gracefully, while a planter by the dining corner adds a fresh, organic touch.

Adjacent to the dining, the temple stands out as a pure SAAG wood creation, — thoughtfully customized where every block of the wood was planned by keeping curvilinear and spherical design of the house in mind. Where every piece of wood block is hand crafted and meet the client’s vision perfectly. Beside it, the green ombré PU-painted crockery unit adds a fresh play of color and ties the area together.
The ceiling in living room is a true highlight — a continuous hand-drawn curved design that flows seamlessly across the living area and gracefully dips down onto the TV unit, acting as the visual centrepiece of the home.

The Common Area
A cozy corner that connects living room’s curve ceiling together here— featuring an arched L-shaped tall short unit along with a seating and a statement sofa-cum-bed upholstered in a unique fabric printed with huts and houses, inspired by the Japanese mountain villages. This space brings an earthy charm and storytelling element which is shown by the wooden texture in unit and printed fabric. Overall keeping functionality of the space in mind and to put the look together we have added a long mirror.

The Kitchen
The kitchen carries forward the theme of simplicity and strength. With a heavy granite countertop and matching dado, the space feels grounded and timeless. Cabinets are kept minimal in clean white tones, giving a spacious and bright appeal. Subtle sleek black fittings balance the warmth and contrast — a perfect reflection of Japandi harmony between form and function.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom exudes serenity with its hand-drawn abstract headboard wall crafted in POP and finished with texture paint. This feature wall sets the tone for the entire room — calm, artistic, and deeply personal.

Breaking away from convention, the side table has been designed with taller proportions, adding a touch of modern experimentation. The wardrobe and TV unit continue the theme of gentle arches, detailed in a combination of PU and laminate finishes, adding layers of visual interest and sophistication.

Son’s Bedroom
The son’s bedroom captures the youthful calmness of Japandi design while reflecting a deeper story rooted in Japanese culture. The focal point of the room is the maroon and white printed headboard — inspired by the Sika deer (Cervus nippon), known as the sacred messenger of the gods in Nara, Japan. This symbolic element adds meaning and personality, connecting nature and spirituality within the home’s design language.

The rest of the room follows a muted and balanced palette — walls and ceiling finished in soft texture paint and clean white tones, creating a serene backdrop for daily life. The space feels light yet grounded, echoing the philosophy of simplicity through thoughtful detailing.

We’ve kept the furniture minimal and aesthetic yet functional, in line with Japandi principles — a combination of natural wood and subtle black metal, offering both modern structure and organic warmth.

Soft ambient lighting, linen curtains, and minimal accessories make the space feel airy and personal, while the black metal and wooden texture highlights tie it seamlessly with the rest of the home while the rooms balances youthful energy with quiet sophistication, creating an environment that feels both inspiring and comforting.

Our vision was to create a space that feels both serene and meaningful—a place where the family can live with purpose and elegance. More than just a house, it is a living poem of thoughtful design, where aesthetics and functionality come together in perfect harmony.
